Common Law admission Test is an aptitude examination conducted by one of the National Law Universities every year. Currently, there are 21 Nationa lLaw Universities situated in different states across the country. CLAT is a gateway to enter into national law schools for undergraduate as well as for post graduate law programme. The question paper comprises 5 sections having 200 questions. Further, each question is of one marks. The break-up of the questions are given as follows:
Please note that there is also negative marking of 0.25 marks meaning thereby, for every 4 incorrect answers 1 marks would be deducted from your score. Therefore, it is advised to attempt only those questions whose answers are known.
Tips for preparation
The CLAT paper is designed such that it assess the overall knowledge and skills of the candidate. Every section is unique and thus require different strategy for preparation and also while solving them during exam. First of all, it is very important to get acquainted with the pattern or syllabus of the CLAT. For that purpose, candidate can go through previous year papers and analyse the pattern of questions. It is very important to make a schedule or time table covering each subjects. Candidates must divide his/her hours into reading newspaper, solving questions related to each sections/subjects, and learning new things or concepts.
Since there are 200 questions which need to be solved in 120 minutes, it is therefore very important to manage the time during exam. Time management is the important aspect to ace such examination. Candidates first should focus on the questions in which their concepts are strong, thus one need to identify their strengths and weakness before writing an examination. Also Plan a strategy to complete each sections within that time and follow that.
Study Smart- Choose good books
It is true that you need to study extensively for CLAT however, it does not imply that you need to know everything about everything. One must develop a smart strategy and choose right source to study for. Also, inculcate the habit of reading more, this would help immensely in solving paper.
Hard work and determination
The only key to success is continuous hard-work and determination. Preparation for each section need to be consistent. One must practice questions from maths, English, logical and legal reasoning regularly and also abreast yourself with GK and Current affairs in order to excel in these areas. This would help you immensely by enabling you to solve questions timely and correctly. This would also help you to develop your comprehension ability, builds your vocabulary, reading speed and what not.
Take mock tests
All your efforts would go vain if you don’t write mock tests in order to check your progress. Writing mock test would help you in identifying your strong as well as weak areas, so that accordingly you can modify your strategy or time table. Also, it is pertinent to note that you should be serious while writing a mock as if you are writing the D-day examination. The aim should be to complete one mock in one sitting without taking a break in between.
Timely revision is must during preparation. If you omit revision, a lot of effort that you’ve put in goes waste as the plethora of information in your head is bound to get jumbled up. Please make sure that you have made a schedule for revision in your time table.Last, but not the least, do not lose hope and be motivated throughout the preparation and especially during the exam.
